It
is the rural zone and one of the less known of Switzerland,
being often margined by the tourists who prefer the famous
holiday zones in the southern part.
This
does not mean that you can not enjoyed the mountain and
the lakes. In this zone peace and history is breathed,
with medieval centers in its cities, far from the glamour
of resources of great name.
Most
of the visitors has not still heard speaking about its
principal city, S. Gallen, and its magnificent Baroque
cathedral and the preserved good medieval downtown.
Immediately
in the southern part is the Appenzell's mountainous system,
occupied largely by the isolated community of farmers
and craftsmen of Alpstein's hills. The highest mountain
of the region is the Säntis (2500m), rather poor
in Swiss terms, but sufficiently to enjoy much snow.
